Black seems to be slowly fading away as these past season’s runways overflowed with color. It seems color is a new form of black, especially this Spring and Summer ’16. In the midst of this color trend, we spot shiny, silky, bright colored materials, accentuated with heavy and elaborate embroidery— the Sukajyan (souvenir) jacket. As seen by Chloé, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and many other luxury designers, this trend is not only for street-wear, but for the high-end runways as well.

Sukajyan jackets are not solely fashion, but historical and heavy with cultural tradition. Japanese history (WWII) presents the origins of these jackets given to American soldiers as souvenirs. These bright, ornately hand-crafted designs show Eastern and Western themes, moreover Asian-inspired themes including tigers, cranes, dragons, snakes, florals, contrasted by American eagles, and military iconography.

These oriental-inspired, embroidered, bomber jackets will be seen on street wearers and luxury high-end stars alike this spring. Don’t miss out on this eclectic piece this season, and shine your way down the streets of fashion.
